Стремительные изменения в политической, социально-экономической и культурной жизни страны требуют нового подхода к преподаванию иностранных языков в школе.

Коммуникативная направленность и развитие индивидуальности в диалоге культур – основополагающие цели обучения английскому языку. Через познание культуры других стран происходит развитие языковых способностей, психических процессов и свойств личности ученика.

Этот учебный предмет как никакой другой взаимосвязан с другими школьными дисциплинами: историей, литературой, географией, информатикой.

Приведенный ниже урок – это урок развития коммуникативных умений и комплексного применения знаний учащихся. Выбор формы урока обусловлен интересом учащихся к современным компьютерным технологиям и тем, что тема урока английского языка тесно связана с уроком информатики.

Разрабатывая урок, я старалась учесть индивидуально-психологические особенности личности каждого ребенка. При подготовке проекта дети выбрали себе задания в соответствии с их наклонностями и интересами. Так, те, кто планировал связать свою будущую профессию с программированием, написали компьютерные программы для контроля навыков аудирования, чтения, составили кроссворд. Девочка, которая переписывается с американским сверстником посредством Интернет, создала презентацию о достоинствах и недостатках всемирной паутины. Другой ребенок, посещающий курсы автодела, подготовил презентацию об истории создания автомобиля и плюсах и минусах его в современной жизни. Мобильные телефоны покорили весь мир. Учащиеся подготовили презентацию о положительных и отрицательных моментах пользования сотовыми телефонами.

В ходе подготовительной деятельности дети проявили неподдельный интерес, они активно занимались исследовательской деятельностью, помогали друг другу: одни делились языковыми знаниями, другие умением работать с компьютером.

Достижение целей урока принесло удовлетворение как учащимся, так и педагогу.

Цели: развивающий аспект – развитие самостоятельности, критичности, креативности, воображения, способности осуществлять продуктивные речевые действия;

воспитательный аспект – воспитание потребности к творчеству, чувства сопричастности к мировой культуре, уважения к чужому труду и творчеству;

образовательный аспект – развитие речевых умений.


Ход урока.

I. Оргмомент.

T: Good morning. Glad to see you. How are you?

P: Fine, Thanks. And you?

T: OK.Thank you.

.T: Sit down, please. Let’s begin our lesson. To find out the topic of the lesson I want you to solve a cross-word puzzle. Look at the screen.( Crossword)

  1. It is used for washing the dishes.(a dishwasher)

  2. It is used for performing everyday cleaning. (a vacuum cleaner)

  3. It is used for watching pre-recorded videos. (a video player)

  4. It is used for taking photographs. (a camera)

  5. It is used for receiving and making calls.(a telephone)

  6. It is used for watching programmes on different channels.(a television)

  7. It is used for making and receiving calls from any place you like. (a mobile)

  8. It is used for cutting and collecting grass.(a mower)

  9. It is used for opening cans.( a can opener)

  10. It is used for cooking food. (a gas stove)

T: So, today we’ll speak about inventions and inventors. The topic of the lesson is “A High-Tech Life”.

T: Now answer my questions, please., What units and machines do you use in your household?

P1.: Many of them: a car, a computer, a refrigerator, a vacuum cleaner and so on.

T: I see. What is the most useful thing for your Mum?

P2.: In my opinion, it is a washing machine.

T: What unit or machine can’t you do without?

P3.: It is my computer.

T :What thing can’t your Dad live without?

P4.: Without his car, to my mind.

T: What thing do you use every day?

P5.: I think, it is my hairdryer.

T: What thing can you easily do without?

P6.: I hope, it is a sewing machine. I hardly ever use it.

T: What is the most useless thing in your household?

P7.: It is a video recorder. I am always lack of time to use it.

T: What thing do you use regularly?

P8: I can’t live without my mobile telephone.

T: What do you think about all this?

P9.: The machine I use most often is my computer.

T: What can you add?

P10: My dream is to have a dishwasher.

T: What is your favourite unit?

P11: I think it is my camera. I am fond of taking pictures.

T: What about you?

P12: I like watching TV.

T: I see. Well, you use many units and machines. And do you know the names of people who invented them?

P1: I’d name such of them as Alexander Graham Bell, Karl Benz, Tomas Alva Edison, Frez and Yakovlev and so on.


Ш. Тренировка учащихся в восприятии речи на слух.


T: Now you will listen to a text about one of them, a famous American inventor Tomas Alva Edison. In the text you’ll meet the following words:

Tomas Alva Edison (1847-1931)

A boss – хозяин

To be awake – бодрствовать

To shake (shook, shaken) –потрясти

An hour – час

A hand (of a clock) –стрелка

To lose (lost, lost) – потерять

To be patented – быть запатентованным

An award =a prize

Be attentive. After you have listened to the text, you’ll have to choose the best title for it and do some other tasks. I’ll read it twice.


When Edison was a boy of fifteen, he worked as a telegraph operator. He had to be on duty at night, from 7 o’clock in the evening till 7 o’clock in the morning. But at night there was never much work and telegraph operators usually slept. So the boss ordered each operator to give a signal every hour to show that he was awake. Edison’s signals always came at the same time, at the beginning of each new hour. That surprised the boss. So one night he sent an inspector to see how well the boy was working.

When the inspector opened the door, he saw Edison sleeping in his chair. The inspector was going to shake the boy, when he saw a clock with a mechanism on the table near the telegraph apparatus. He waited to see what would happen. When the hand of the clock pointed to the hour, the mechanism began to work and sent a signal.

The inspector went up to the boy and shook him. Edison awoke. He was told that he had lost his job.

This story explains why the first of Edison’s many inventions was never patented.

V. Развитие умений монологической речи.

T: Your classmates have prepared presentations about different inventions that we use in our life. Ksenia P., come here. Everybody, listen to Ksenia, please. Vanya, will you help her, please.

It is strange to think that one of the most powerful and richest businesses in the world is a bit more than 30 years old. I mean computer business. Computers are widely used in offices, banks, educational institutions and in households.

Here you can see some stages of the development of INTERNET. More than 1 billion people use it nowadays. The next, please.

I’ve also got a computer. I use it all the time: as a typewriter and address book, for playing games, listening to music, watching films. Besides I can go on Internet and discover everything about anything. It is a brilliant source of information. The next slide, please.

Slide № 4.

Though my parents say I can’t rely on all the Internet information because I don’t know where it’s coming from. More than that, psychologists now recognize a new illness caused by computers: Internet Addiction Syndrome (IAS). It is similar to gambling, smoking, drinking. Many users spend up to 40 hours a week on the Internet. All this results in broken relationships, job losses, financial ruin and even suicide.

T: Thank you. Any questions to Kseniya?

P1: You are an Internet user. Aren’t you an Internet addict?

Kseniya: No, I am not.

P1: I know, you’ve got an Internet pal from America. Am I right?

Kseniya: Yes, you are.

A car is one of the most useful inventions in our life.

The world’s first petrol-driven car was produced by Karl Benz in Germany in 1885.

The first Russian automobile was designed by P.A.Frez and E.A.Yakovlev. It had been built by May 1896.

An American technological genius Henry Ford built an automobile which had a speed of 25 miles per hour in 1896. He established the Ford Motor Company and first used an assembly line. It was a revolution in cars production. Henry Ford had more than 1 billion US dollars and spent more than 40 million dollars on charities.

Nowadays people couldn’t possibly live without cars. Conveniences seem to be evident:

  • Cars take you where you want to go and when you want to go there.

  • You can travel freely and comfortably wherever you want.

  • Besides a car is a way of self-expression.

Of course, we can’t ignore the problems caused by cars:

  • Pollution

  • Accidents and so on.

I think it is the most useful invention that I can imagine. We always need to keep in touch with people, offices and different institutions. The next slide, please.

The first telephone was invented by an American engineer Alexander Graham Bell in 1876.

Modern telephones can be divided into stationary, cordless and mobile. At home I’ve got a cordless telephone. I think it saves time when you have a receiver just at hand. I’ve also got a mobile telephone.

I couldn’t possibly live without my phone.

  • I can take it anywhere I like.

  • I can get in touch with anybody from any place.

  • I can call the police and the ambulance.

But my Mum is against. She thinks it is a luxury to have a mobile, it is too expensive, and it is more trouble than it’s worth. Besides she says that mobiles are dangerous for health. And more than that, you may fall a victim of robbers.

Olya: I am not sure if it is really so dangerous. But to use it is extremely convenient.

Yulya: (TV or not TV)

People all over the world are considered to be very enthusiastic TV viewers. Television is the main source of information for millions of them. It keeps us up-to-date with what happens in the world. It educates and entertains us. We can’t imagine our life without TV. The next slide, please.

Watching television has become the most popular leisure activity since John Logie Baird from Scotland invented it in 1926. Modern television sets are provided with remote-control units, the first of which was created in 1950. A remote-control unit helps a viewer to turn the picture and sound on and off and turn from channel to channel from a distance, which is very convenient.

People watch TV for different reasons. Here are some types of TV viewers.

  • The absent-minded.

He leaves TV on all day. In the meantime he eats, phones, reads or does his homework. For him television is really just background noise for his day.

  • The addict.

He won’t give up TV for anything in the world. He watches the programmes with great concentration. Even during commercials he won’t leave the screen.

  • The bored.

He puts the TV on when he’s got nothing better to do. For him TV is the last resort. He only watches it when it is raining or when he’s ill.

T: Now boys and girls, you’ll read a text “Children and Computers”.

What do you think the text is about according to the title?

CHILDREN AND COMPUTERS


One of the greatest advances in modern technology has been the invention of computers. They help us, fascinate us and occasionally scare us. The latest fear concerns children and computers. Some experts claim that brothers and sisters are starting to play more with computers than with one another, and that computers are distancing children from their parents.

Most computer games are violent. Adult computer addicts are familiar figures: pale people who sit in front of green screens hour after hour. That is their choice. But the idea of a child living in front of a flashing green screen is less acceptable. Canadian child psychologist James Norton explains: “These are children with few friends, afraid of making conversation. They cannot concentrate for long periods of time except in front of the screen. If the computer games they play are violent,” she adds, “they become indifferent to violence.”

James Norton sees a good number of troubled children. They usually persuade their parents to buy them a computer by saying it will help their education. Computers, after all, are a central part of education today. Some educationalists enthusiastically look forward to the day when every child will have a personal computer in the class room and the class teacher will be nothing but a technician. That is not particularly appealing either, although with the current lack of teachers someone may decide it makes good economic sense. James Norton disapproves of such an attitude, “it is relationships with the teacher and the other pupils that make you learn”.

We may be at a sort of crossroads. It is a question of whether we use the machines wisely or stupidly in bringing up children. “The computer”, says the child psychologist, “is only a surface problem, but the real problem is not computers. It is parents who have forgotten how to be parents; or don’t have confidence. I wish them to start worrying about what is happening”.

T: Well, I see. Now take your seats in front of your computers. Read the text again. Your computers will check how well you understood it and give you marks.
