The „Hessische Fachberaterinnen und Fachberater für Englisch in der Grundschule“ give very helpful und useful guidelines on assessment in foreign language teaching at primary schools (in Hesse). After describing the principles of teaching English at primary schools, they present what should be taught in English (speech functions, topics, list of words). They then list the competences children should acquire at school (the four skills and intercultural competence). The last part deals with criteria of assessment (What should be assessed? How can it be assessed?). An observation sheet is also included.
