1984: Graduation Diploma with high honors at Carroll High School, Ozark, Alabama, USA, at the end of a one-year experience as an exchange student in U.S.A. Member of the National Honor Society.


1985: Graduation Diploma at Liceo Scientifico Leonardo da Vinci, Milano, Italy, with the score of 60/60.


2) University


1991: Laurea in Nuclear Engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan, Milano, Italy, with the final degree score of 100/100 cum laude. The dissertation thesis presented was entitled “Monte Carlo Analysis of the Reliability and Availability of a Complex System. Nonlinear case, Static and Dynamic”.


3) POST - LAUREA STUDIES


March 1995: Master in Mechanical engineering at the " Mechanical, Aerospace & Nuclear Engineering Department" of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Fourteen courses were attended with a "Grade Point Average" of 3.96 out of 4.0. The thesis presented was entitled "Model Uncertainty and the Use of Expert Judgment in the Performance Assessment of a High-Level Radioactive Waste Repository".


October 1995: PhD in “ Science and Technology in Nuclear Plants” at the Department of Nuclear Engineering of the Polytechnic of Milan. The thesis presented was entitled "Probabilistic-Dynamic Analysis of Systems by means of Monte Carlo Methods and Neural Networks".


February 1998: PhD at the Department of Nuclear Engineering of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The thesis presented was entitled "A Methodology for Interactive Decision Making in Environmental Management Involving Multiple Stakeholders".


4) RESEARCH ACTIVITIES IN ITALY


Since 1996 : Assistant professor on tenure track and permanent staff researcher at the Department of Nuclear Engineering of the Polytechnic of Milan.


2001-2005 : Associate professor at the Department of Nuclear Engineering of the Polytechnic of Milan.


Since 2005 : Full professor at the Department of Nuclear Engineering of the Polytechnic of Milan.


5) RESEARCH ACTIVITIES ABROAD


1993-1995: Staff researcher at the “Mechanical, Aerospace & Nuclear Engineering Department” of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).


1996 – 1997 and 1999 – 2000: Research activity within the framework of the Belgo-Italian agreement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Service de Metrologie Nucleaire of the Universite’ Libre de Bruxelles.


1998: One month research period as a visiting scientist at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio in the group of Reactor Physics. The research objective was the development of a probabilistic method for the estimation of Xenon in nuclear power reactors.


2001: One week research period as a visiting scientist at the Systems Modelling and Dependability Laboratory (LM2S) of the Université de Technologie de Troyes, France. The research objective was the development of components degradation models and corresponding optimal maintenance strategies.


2007: Invited to join the Ohio State University Academic Center of Excellence (ACE) for Instrumentation and Control and Reactor Safety.


2008: Invited to a one week research period as a visiting scientist at the Industrial Engineering Department of the Tsinghua University, Beijng, People Republic of China. The research obiective was the investigation of safety, reliability and ergonomics issues of safety-critical systems, especially on emergency response and team performance.


2009-: Invited to a one week research period at the Industrial Engineering Department of the Universidad Federico Santa Maria of Valparaiso, Chile. The research obiective was the investigation of innovative productive availability modeling techniques.


Since 2010 : Director of the Chair on Complex Systems and the Energy Challenge at Ecole Centrale Paris and Supelec, Fondation Europeenne pour l’Energie Nouvelle – EdF.


Since 2010 : Adjunct professor in Risk Analysis at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Economics, Risk Management and Planning, of the University of Stavanger, Norway.
