Professor A.K. Ghose is a former Director of Indian School of Mines Dhanbad. Professor A.K. Ghose is Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering and Past President of the Institution of Engineers (India) and Mining, Geological & Metallurgical Institute of India. He has served as a consultant to UNDP, the World Bank, ILO and UNESCAP besides problem-solving for mining organizations in India, Indonesia and Tanzania. He has been an invited keynote speaker in several international conferences and the World Mining Congresses and has been involved in energy issues and mineral development. Currently, he edits the Journal of Mines, Metals & Fuels and Indian Journal of Power & River Valley Development besides being an individual consultant in the fields of education and technology.
Professor B.B. Dhar by profession, is a known expert of mining, environment and higher education in this country, and has significantly contributed to the development of mining education, research and sustainable development of mineral resources. As a Member of the Task Force on MOU, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Department of Public Enterprises, Government of India, for over five (5) years (till December 2009) with Mining and Metals Syndicate, Prof. Dhar has shown his capability of assessment, analysis of assets and the role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as an effective tool for sustainable development, and, green initiatives in the corporate world. Prof Dhar has been actively involved in the decision making bodies of the country at various levels.

Prof. Dhar is the former - Chairman, Expert Group on Prevention, Abatement and Control of Pollution, Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India; Member, Research Council, Institute of Minerals & Materials Technology, CSIR, Bhubaneswar; Member, Research Council, Advanced Minerals & Processes Research Institute, CSIR, Bhopal; Director (Research), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, the body coordinating the university education in the country; Director, Central Mining Research Institute (CMRI), Dhanbad, now known as Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) – CSIR; Professor and Head, Department of Mining, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University.
Prof. Dhar has published over 120 scientific and technical papers and edited five books, including the Indian edition of '‘UNDP Training Manual on Environmental Management of Mine Sites'’ published by Oxford and IBH Publishing Co. Ltd., New Delhi (1995). A book on ‘Mining and Environment’, published by APH Publishing Corporation, New Delhi was released in 2000. He was on the editorial board of three technical journals, two of which are published from abroad and was editor in chief, Journal of Mining Research published by Wiley Easter Ltd., New Delhi (till 1997). He was also on the editorial committee of ‘University News’ (A weekly journal of higher education) published by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi (1999-2002). He has several Awards to his credit, namely: National Mineral Award, Ministry of Mines, Government of India, (1994); CSIR Technology Award (1995); NRDC Award for invention on the FIRST TECHNOLOGY DAY OF INDIA, on May 11, 1999; Dewan Bahadur D D Thacker Coal Mining Gold Medal of MGMI; Rajendra Prasad Gold Medal of Institution of Engineers; “Award of Excellence-2002” by the “Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technolgist”, Bhubaneswar.
He is well known in the field of Environment and Sustainability particularly for the exploration, development and exploitation of minerals together with conservation.Prof. Dhar is a friend of all who are actively engaged in the sustainable development of mining and metals industry in particular and the other industries in general, and has shown all initiatives to promote sustainable development, education and Training in the country. Prof. Dhar as President of KECSS has organized for the last three years a Mega Kashmiri Cultural Extravaganza “Shuhul Taaph” to promote Social Cultural Dimension of Kashmiri Culture in New Delhi. During this festival eminent Kashmiris in the fields of Science, Technology, Medicine, Literature and Arts are honored with the KECSS Distinguished Awards, KECSS Life Time Achievement Awards and KECSS Achievers Awards.
One of the main objectives of the Society is to promote Kashmir Culture, language, arts, literature and science, and to encourage study and research in these fields, and to establish and operate libraries, clubs, reading rooms and other Centres, and to provide facilities and amenities, in furthering of these objectives. Professor D. P. Singh (1938) an alumni of BHU 1960 batch of Mining Engineering, obtained his Masters in Engineering and Ph.D from University of Melbourne in 1968 & 1971 respectively. He joined the faculty of Mining Engineering at BHU in 1962 and became Head of the department and also the Coordinator of Centre of Advanced Study in Rock Mechanics and Ground Control. Authored over 200 scientific and technical papers and guided 19 students to receive Ph.D under his guidance. His close interaction with the industry is through 10 sponsored and 22 consultancy projects on various aspects of Mining. Travelled widely he had delivered numerous lectures and made technical presentations in major international events during his distinguished career. As a rare distinction for any Mining Engineer, he had successfully served as the Vice Chancellor of Awadhesh Pratap University, Rewa(1991-1993), University of Lucknow(1999-2002) and U.P. Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Allahabad (2002-2005). A recipient of prestigious National Mineral Award in 1996, Prof Singh had been a board member of several mining companies and member of important national institutions like CSIR, AICTE, BHU, IIT(Kanpur), IIT(Roorkee), ISM, BIT(Mesra), NIRM, IGNOU, etc. He was conferred numerous prestigious medals and fellowships including Dr Rajendra Prasad Memorial medal from Institution of Engineers(India) in 2000, and Hony. Life Time Achievement Award
Shri Chandrakant S.Gundewar, Controller General, Indian Bureau of Mines holds Post Graduate Degree in Metallurgical Engineering i.e. M.Sc. Engineering (Metallurgy) from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He started his career in Indian Bureau of Mines in the year 1976. For a small stint he also worked in the Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd. At Indian Bureau of Mines he worked in different capacities and rose to the post of Controller General of Indian Bureau of Mines in July 2008. Prior to that he was heading the Ore Dressing Division of Indian Bureau of Mines responsible for planning, direction and management of research work. In his versatile career in the field of Mineral Engineering, he was deeply involved in investigations on bench and pilot scale on mineral beneficiation, mineral agglomeration, preparation of pre-feasibility reports, in plant studies and auditing etc work. His notable contributions in commercial application for operations are of Rock Phosphate beneficiation plant in Jhamarkotra, Rajasthan, Limestone beneficiation Plant at Chaibasa, Jharkhand and Madukkarai, Tamilnadu for improving the grade & recovery and Chrome ore beneficiation plant at Sukinda, Orissa for overall improvement.
He had undergone specialized Training under UNDP Fellowship on “Mineral Processing” in the reputed organizations at United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom and Germany. He has also presented papers in the International Seminar on Comminution held at Camborne School of Mines, UK in 1989, XXIII International Mineral Processing Congress held at Istanbul, Turkey in 2006 and in the 24th International Mineral Processing Congress held at Beijing, China in September 2008. He was also honoured to chair the technical sessions in the Congress held at Istanbul & Beijing. He had been to Australia in 2009; Chile & Columbia in 2011 and China in November 2011 as a member of the High Level Indian delegation.
Several research publications are on his credit and he was closely associated in organizing many national and international symposia in the field of mineral engineering. He is recipient of the “Peravadhanulu Award’ instituted by the Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers for best paper in 2006 and “Lala Ramkishore Singhal Award” instituted by the Mining, Geological & Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI), Kolkata for 2007-2008 for his outstanding contributions in the field of conservation of minerals. He is Vice Chairman of the Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers (IIME), Vice Chairman of the Nagpur Branch of the Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI) and fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India).

Shri J.K. Tewari, IFS (1954) presently Addl. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Central), Eastern Regional Office, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Bhubaneswar is a Indian Forest Service Officer of IFS (Kerala cadre) batch 1979 has held various senior positions during his service career in Central and as well as State Governments as Forest and Wildlife Manager. He did specialization in wildlife management from Wildlife Institute of India and subsequently worked for 4 years as Wildlife Preservation Officer, Periyar Tiger Reserve, Kerala. During this tenure, he laid foundation for evolution of a process resulting in internationally recognized Periyar model of Eco-development. As a custodian of natural forest ecosystem in Kerala, he was responsible for management of all the nationalized private forests in Kerala. Subsequently, as Head of the Center for Social Forestry and Eco-rehabilitation (an ICFRE Centre), Allhabad he implemented World Bank projects and initiated several other research activities for Forestry Research and Education in UP & Bihar. He monitored all the activities of Kerala Forest Department as Chief Conservator of Forests (Vigilance). Later, he coordinated with RITES for the development of Forest Management Information System as strong tool for monitoring the activities of Forest Deptt. As Chief Wildlife Warden of Kerala, he introduced several reforms towards management of Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks especially emphasizing on people’s participation and eco-development activities. He is Heading the Eastern Regional Office of MoEF, since November, 2009 which has a mandate to carry out functions relating to Forest Conservation and Environment Management in the States of West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand & Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands of eastern region.
His tenure in the Eastern Region has been challenging particularly in recognizing the importance of R&D intervention in addressing the issues of environmental protection and management. During the period, he coordinated several industry-institute meets resulting in a very effective interaction between academicians, researchers and industries. Several issues being followed up pursuant to these interactions includes in the areas of mining, need for effectively improving environmental services like water harvesting, over burden dump stabilization, top soil management and special emphasis on mine reclamation plan in a way that the productivity of the land is enhanced during post mining phase through integrated planning of water body and reclaimed land suitable for agriculture. The ecological restoration effort should bring the degraded areas for better land use such as agriculture or some other use like afforestation, horticulture etc. A system has also been introduced to conduct a detail ecological and systematic survey of flora and fauna including amphibians and pollinators and agricultural crops through Government Institutions so that appropriate mitigative steps can be taken to save the germ plasm and environment and restore the ecological services benefiting the human community as well as ecosystem as a whole. Dr U.C.Jena Dy. Director(Mines), is an energetic official looking after the Mining administration in the Joda region of Odisha under Govt. of Odisha quite successfully. He had pioneered several innovative systems in his region for systematic movement and extraction of iron ore and manganese. He had introduced computerized systems to further handle the huge volumes of ore movement. He received Ph.D from Corllins University of USA under the guidance of Professor Frank Muller. He is the recipient of Award of Excellence and distinction in engineering Computering for Mining projects. Before his posting at Joda, he looked after administration in Bolangir, Sambalpur, Angul/Talcher and Koira region in the Deptt. of Steel & Mines. During his tendure he had increased the revenue from mining from Koira and Joda regions. Besides, he had authored some popular novels and a number of short stories in Odia language.
Professor Pankaj Chandra Director of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, is an alumni of BHU-IT (1983 batch of Mining Engineering), had his Ph.D from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. in 1989. His areas of specialization includes Manufacturing management, building technological capabilities, supply chain coordination, and hi-tech entrepreneurship. He joined University of Alaska, Fairbanks as a Research Associate in 1984 and conducted research for U.S. Bureau of Mines in the area of Rock Mechanics/Destructive Testing. Developed Finite Element schemes for stress analysis of underground openings. In 1985 he was a research associate with The World Bank, Washington D.C. and developed for the Industry Department a resource allocation/logistics model for Bank-funded iron ore projects in the developing countries (World Development Report). Prepared projections for global iron ore production upto 1995. In Septemeber 1986, he returned to academics as a Lecturer at The Wharton School, and was responsible for teaching Management Decision Analysis, an advanced level core course in the M.B.A. programme.Visiting Professor - Faculte SES - COMIN, University of Geneva, Switzerland. Taught a course in Operations Management in the DMA programme (the graduate management programme) (4/91-6/91), Visiting Professor – Department of Industrial Economics, Renmin University, Beijing (5/92). Conducted research on technology management in the textile industry in China and compared it with those in India and Canada.
