LEVEL 110 1. A SHORT Baroque piece (other than J.S. Bach)


2. An etude by Czerny or similar style

3. A Classic Sonatina (complete), or a small scale Classic Sonata

4. A short Romantic Era piece


LEVEL 111 1. J.S. Bach – A 2 part Invention or selection from “Little Preludes and Fugues”

2. An etude

--------------------------------------------------------------

3. A slow movement from a Classic Sonata, or a short Classic Era piece

4. A short 20th Century or Impressionistic piece


Technique: (110-111)


All major and minor (harmonic and melodic) scales should be studied during the course of 2 semesters at this level, and presented in the following form:


  • 2 octave scales, 2 octave tonic arpeggio and cadence chords (I,IV,V7,I)

  • present 4 keys at each jury (major keys first semester, minor keys second semester)



LEVEL 210 1. A short piece from the English or French Baroque (Handel, Purcell, Rameau,

Couperin, etc.

2. An etude

--------------------------------------------------------------

3. First movement of a Classic Sonata or Concerto in Sonata-Allegro form

4. Slow movement of above Sonata or Concerto


LEVEL 211 1. J.S. Bach 3 part Invention (Sinfonia), or a 2 part Invention if not previously studied

2. An etude – Romantic, Impressionistic, or 20th Century

--------------------------------------------------------------

3. A short work in any style

4. Final movement of above Sonata or Concerto


Technique: (Level 210-211)


Present major and minor keys (harmonic and melodic) at each jury.


  • Scales – 1,2,3 and 4 octaves with a steady pulse

  • 2 octave scale in contrary motion

  • 3 octave tonic arpeggios

  • cadence chord



NON MAJORS PIANO REQUIREMENTS (continued)


LEVEL 310 1. Movement #1 and #2 of a 3 or 4 movement Sonata or Concerto (any style)

2. A short Romantic or Impressionistic work

--------------------------------------------------------------

3. A short 20th Century work

4. An etude from Czerny Opus 740, or a Chopin etude


Technique: (310)


Present 2 Major and 2 Minor (Harmonic and Melodic) at each jury.


  • 4 octave scale in parallel/contrary pattern

  • 4 octave tonic arpeggio

  • cadence chords



Junior Recital



At level 311 the student may elect to give a half recital (30 minutes of music) instead of preparing a jury exam. Recital repertoire must represent at least three periods in music history.


LEVEL 350



Begin work on a recital program of not less than 45 minutes of music. The program must be representative of at least three different eras of music history, and include one full sonata.


Repertoire from this program will be heard at the 350 jury.


LEVEL 351



Performance of the above recital program occurs during this semester. A Recital Permission Jury must be taken six weeks before the proposed recital date. If the student does not pass the Permission Jury, the recital date will have to be postponed.


Technique: (First Semester, 350)


2 Major and 2 Minor (Harmonic and Melodic) keys


  • 4 octave scales in parallel / contrary pattern

  • 4 octave tonic arpeggio

  • cadence chords



APPLIED PIANO MAJORS REQUIREMENTS


(A student desiring to be a Performance Major but lacking sufficient background will be placed in Level 104. However, this student must still complete all four advanced levels, 120-361, in order to give the required Senior Recital.)


LEVEL 104 1. A short Baroque piece

  1. A etude

  1. A Classic Era Sonatina (complete)

  2. A short Romantic Era piece


LEVEL 105 1. J.S. Bach – a 2 part Invention

  1. An etude

--------------------------------------------------------------

  1. A fast movement of a Classic Sonata

  2. A short 20th Century piece


Technique: (104-105)


All major and minor (Harmonic and Melodic) keys should be covered over the course of two semesters, and should be presented in the following form:


  • 2 octave scales, parallel and contrary

  • 2 octave tonic arpeggio

  • cadence chords (I,IV,V7,I)


Present 4 keys at each jury (Major keys first semester, minor keys second semester).
