    Course Description of the Study Programme Jurisprudence offered by the Higher Education Establishment EIHSEBA


    1. The name of the study course: History of the Latvia`s state and laws

    2. Requirements which should be fulfilled to start acquisition of the study course: not any

    3. The aim, tasks and planned learning results of the study course:

    The aim: To provide knowledge of historical genesis and evolution of the laws, judicial system and public management institutions, main reasons of dynamics of cultural growth of its contents in the territory of current Republic of Latvia in the period from X century up to nowadays and to show that current legal system of LR has ancient historical traditions and to form skills of interpreting present laws with the help of past laws.

    Tasks:

    1. To provide chronological knowledge about the main stages of periodization of historical evolution of different laws, courts and public management institutions in the territory of LR, peculiarities of their development and problems caused as a result of influence of different factors.

    2. To acquaint with traditions of historical genesis and evolution of legal system (norms, institutes, principles, spheres) and their meaning for the territory of Latvia.

    3. To provide knowledge about relation of evolution of Latvian laws with the main tendencies of evolution of Romano-Germanic (West European) family of laws.

    4. To form understanding of the role and meaning of the national democratic state in further formation of national legal system which meets people’s interests.

    5. To form students’ skills to compare and evaluate formal and semantic interconnection of events of current legal practice with the context of historical evolution with the use of teleological and historical methods.

    Planned learning results:

    Knowledge: The students at appropriate scientific level understand historical evolution of different elements of the legal system (norms, principles, institutes, spheres), judicial and public management institutions in the territory of current LR, understand the main peculiarities, interaction and interconnection of the stages of periodization of this evolution.

    Skills:

    • the students can analyse and evaluate historical evolution of Latvian laws and the most important aspects of its problems;

    • the students independently orientate and can characterise specific lexis, terminology of the history of laws and its characteristic historical peculiarities.

    Competences:

    • the students can analyse direct contents of the sources of history of laws and compare them with different spheres of modern legal system, i.e. civil law, criminal law, labour law, constitutional law, etc.;

    • the students can apply knowledge of historical data of the laws in interpretation, justification and application of different modern legal norms and principles;

    • the students can productively interpret and apply knowledge of historical data of the laws in processing and presentation of different legal texts.

    3. Aim and objectives of the study course, study results to be achieved:

    Aim: to consider communication as the process of coming into contact, contact maintenance and development. To acquire communication skills: to assess communication partners objectively, to control own behaviour and actions in different work and household situations.

    Objectives:

    • to provide theoretical knowledge of communication and cultural behaviour;

    • to develop the skills of adequate perception, self-assessment and assessment of other people, to form and maintain positive communication, to acquire the skills of working in team and solving problem situations.

    Planned study results:

    • Students know the essence of communication, great variety of the types of communication, know their temperament, type of memory and perception, etc. and their expression in communication, know the techniques of verbal and non-verbal communication;

    • can orient in different situations, forecast their own and communication partners’ actions and direct their relations into desirable sphere. Students have acquired the skills of verbal and non-verbal communication;

    • can plan further course of events in accordance with existing or expected communication situation for achievement of necessary results and conflict avoidance.

    • Essence of communication; the notion, structure, functions and types of influence. The most important features of communication.

    • Personality, personal characteristics and their role in communication.

    • Types of communication, mechanisms of perception.

    • Verbal communication. Communication barriers. Metalanguage, lie, subtext.

    • Non-verbal communication. Eyes, mimics, voice, breath, laughter.

    • Non-verbal communication: gestures, posture, manner of walking, clothes.

    • Interpersonal communication in organisation. Person as a part of the collective.
