Appendix 4: V-NET Disk and Installation



About V-NET

V-NET is a tool for the implementation of some of the functionalities of the materialisation of the approach for the assessment of BNs. It is based on several algorithms, most of which are derived from the literature with some modifications, as appropriate. The overall functionality of the tool was developed in Visual Basic 6.0 for PC, chosen for its availability, familiarity and popularity. Non technical terminology and visualisation aids were chosen for the assessment of the BNs. V-NET is an extension of existing BN software tools. More specifically, NeticaTM was chosen as the BN tool for the networks construction.


Installing the program
Copy the folder ‘deploy’ from the disk to your computer.

Double Click on setup.exe to install the program and then follow the instructions on the screen.

If you get a message “A file being copied is older than the file currently on your system &. Do you want to keep this file?” click the OK button.

The installation creates:
1. A directory \V-NET (usually under \Program Files) with all the application

files.
2. An icon with the name V-VET that leads to the program V-NET in the ‘start menu’, in

‘programs’.


Running the program
To start the program just go to the ‘Start menu’ ‘Programs --- V-NET’ and click the program ‘V-NET’.


Running the program opens the main V-NET window and a Netica window (on the bottom of the screen). The Netica window enables the user to make changes to a network. If you made changes to the network, save it and open it again in the V-NET window. The new changes will appear. You can now continue your investigation of the changed structure.
